End spurt to the opening of the Deutsche Bank KunstHalle

By the time the doors were shut this past Sunday, 101,112 visitors had seen Visions of Modernity, the closing exhibition at the Deutsche Guggenheim.
The record-breaking show presented masterpieces of Impressionism and Classic Modernism from the collections of the Guggenheim Foundation, some of them for the very first time in Berlin. Since 1997, over two million people have visited a total of 61 exhibitions of international contemporary art and modernist classics, among them 18 spectacular commissioned works. Artists like Gerhard Richter, Anish Kapoor, Jeff Wall, and most recently Gabriel Orozco have created works for the exhibition hall on Unter den Linden.
With the opening of the new Deutsche Bank KunstHalle on Unter den Linden, the space will remain an innovative art platform for Berlin and its success story will continue in a new form. Beginning in April 2013, young artists from all over the world and new discoveries from Berlin’s art scene will make guest appearances here; international collections will be presented, with a focus on the Deutsche Bank Collection in shows by leading curators.
The opening exhibition presents Deutsche Bank’s Artist of the Year—the Pakistani Imran Qureshi, who is widely considered to be one of the most fascinating new figures on the young global scene. Qureshi combines the ancient traditional art form of miniature painting with a variety of western artistic influences, creating installations in which painting and drawing merge to become a contemplative experience. The opening will take place on April 18.
